Notes: Nice complexity with fruit sweetness flavors of melon, strawberry and Meyer lemon. Body is rounded out with solid chocolate, toffee and a syrupy honey note.
The country of Papua New Guinea is located on the eastern half of the New Guinea island. While the western half of the island belongs to the country of Indonesia. This chain of islands is directionally north from the coast of Australia.
For those unfamiliar with specialty coffee from PNG, this is a prime example of what this region and terroir can produce. Combining the island's high elevation and mountainous regions, pressure forces clouds upwards to gather precipitation; afternoon warmth is often accompanied by fierce thunderstorms which can vanish as quickly as they appear. It is an ideal climate for growing green coffee. When you add these climate/regional conditions with Korgua Estate/Kuta mill standards of selective cherry picking, diligent processing, quality control and evaluation, we can see PNG offers truly special coffees to be enjoyed.
This excellent Peaberry comes from the Korgua Estate which is located in the Nebilyer Valley within Tambul-Nebilyer District of Papua New Guinea. The coffee is fully washed and hand sorted at the Kuta mill. Both Korgua and the Kuta mill are managed by Brian Leahy, the son of the farm's founder and an early Australian explorer, Dan Leahy. The farm and mill, operates between the Ulga and Kolga tribes creating a space for common ground where relationships prior have been in conflict.
