Sunda Hejo is a premium label from the Klasik Beans Cooperative who maintains a close working relationship with Olam Specialty Coffee. This particular lot comes from small holder farms surrounding the peaks of West Java.
Java is the first place where coffee was cultivated in Indonesia and exported/imported by the Dutch in the 1600s. The mountainous regions of Java were at one time active volcanoes. The landscape and climate are an exceptional combination for agriculture. This volcanic cradle of Indonesia provides rich soil conditions and has allowed coffee to flourish.
The Klasik Beans Cooperative was founded in 2010 by Eko Purnomowidi and Dadang Hendarsyah. With decades of knowledge and experience in coffee growth and production in Indonesia, the two began with a small project that grew into the model for their current eco-sustainable coffee production. As of now, Klasik Beans Cooperative has over 2,000 members. The hilly terrain does not allows for large plantations so small holdings are spread over a large region with altitude ranging from 1200 to 1500 meters. Klasik Beans Cooperative operate 5 processing facilities, also known as shelters. Each shelter acts as a transaction point, wet mill, and warehouse for storage. Fresh coffee cherries are carefully chosen by participating members and processing from harvest to final green ensures utmost quality.
Experience, care, dedication and attention to detail lead to the end result of a truly handcrafted specialty coffee from the beautiful land of Sunda.
